Mezzo is a communication coach for couples. The iPhone app listens to a conversation the two of you record together, or reads a WhatsApp chat between you, and writes a coaching report about how you communicate. Both hold two people's words, so we built Mezzo to keep as little as possible for as short a time as possible. This page explains exactly what happens, on this website first and then in the iPhone app.
This website
The website doesn't ask for your chats or recordings. The sample report is made from an invented chat.
If you join the waitlist, your email address is stored with our email provider, Resend, so we can tell you when the app is on the App Store. We send you a short welcome note when you join. Every email after that has an unsubscribe link, and we don't share your address with anyone.
Email you send to our support address reaches us through Resend too, and we use it only to answer you.
Advertising and measurement
We count visits to this website with Vercel Web Analytics. It uses no cookies and doesn't identify you: it records the page, the site or campaign that sent you, your country, your device type and clicks on the App Store button.
If you arrived from an ad, this website may use the Meta and TikTok pixels to count page visits and waitlist sign-ups so we know which ads work. They don't receive your email address, and they don't run in the iPhone app.
The iPhone app: recorded conversations
The app records only after both of you have agreed on the phone and both tap your name to start a session, and it shows that it is listening the whole time. There is no hidden or background recording mode, and you can cancel and delete a recording before it is sent.
When you finish, the app uploads the audio to private storage at our host, Vercel, where only our server can read it, and sends your first names and the moment each of you said hi (which helps tell your voices apart) to our server. Our server sends the audio to ElevenLabs, which writes the transcript and works out who said what. Our server also measures how things were said (pace, loudness, pitch, pauses and talking over each other), compared with each person's own usual level in that recording. It then sends the transcript and those measurements to Anthropic, which writes the report. Our server deletes the audio as soon as the report is back, deletes any upload that is never analysed within an hour, and does not store transcripts or reports.
ElevenLabs and Anthropic process your conversation only to provide this service to us, and may keep it for a limited time for security and abuse monitoring before deleting it. Anthropic does not use it to train its models.
The iPhone app: chats, reports and your data
If you analyse a WhatsApp chat in the app, the free stats are worked out on your phone. For the full chat report, up to your 4,000 most recent messages go to our server and on to Anthropic, which writes it, and nothing is stored on our server.
Your names, your agreement, reports, transcripts and progress are saved only on your phone, inside the app. They are included in your phone's own backups if you use them, like other app data. "Delete all Mezzo data" under You two removes all of it, and deleting the app does too. Either of you can do this at any time.
The app has no account and no sign-in, and it doesn't ask for your email address. It has no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking, and we don't sell or share your data with anyone for advertising.
The iPhone app: purchases
Subscriptions and the chat report bought in the app are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple ID. The app checks with the App Store on your phone which purchases are active.
If you choose to share crash reports with developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash and performance reports.
Hosting
The site and server run on Vercel. Standard request logs (such as IP address and time) are kept by the host for a short period for security.
Your choices and rights
- In the app, "Delete all Mezzo data" removes everything Mezzo keeps on your phone.
- Either partner can withdraw their agreement at any time by deleting all data in the app. Mezzo then stops recording until you both agree again.
- Leave the waitlist with the unsubscribe link in any email, or ask us to delete your email address or tell you what we hold about you, by writing to us.
- Mezzo is for adults 18 and over.
